April is almost in the books

WOW, April is flying by. It is almost in the books. This year has just been zooming by. This next month is always an expensive month for us. Kristina turns 26 on the 4th of May. Justin turns 23 on the 6th of May. Then we will be celebrating 28 years of marriage on the 12th and then the next day is Mother's Day. (Just like it was when we first got married). I didn't even plan that one. My birthday will be coming on the 21st and then we will be through with the birthdays and celebrations for a while.    Now that the kids are grown we don't celebrate their birthdays together anymore it seems. The past couple of years they have done their own thing to celebrate their birthday. Sometimes they celebrate together and sometimes just with their own friends. I will be lucky if i hear from them on Mother's Day or my birthday.    I miss those days when we would celebrate their birthdays together. I would make a cake for each of them and they would decorate it. That was a fun t...

Celebration of Life: Jessica

I have been writing about Jessica in a writer's group lately. This is one of the stories that I wrote. The events are true and happened after the year 1990.   The realization hadn't hit me yet. I was going to have a baby!   James and I had just gotten married and I was looking for a job on our side of town.   When I wanted the car I would take James to work and keep it until it was time to go pick him up again.   One of the days that I took James to work, I dropped him off and went and got a drink at the gas station and was going to fill up the gas tank before I headed home. I was about 26 weeks along in my pregnancy. I went into the gas station to go use the restroom.   I peeked out of the ladies restroom and exclaimed "Please call 911! I am bleeding and something is wrong with my baby!”    I don’t really remember what happened after that, or how exactly I got to the hospital. I remember waking up and being on a hospital bed in the...

Heaven's Bridge

I have been writing about Jessica in a writer's group lately. This is one of the stories that I wrote. The events are true and happened after the year 2000.      “Mommy, my head hurts!” exclaimed Jessica. She went to lie down on the couch and curled up and closed her eyes. It seemed like I was constantly giving her Motrin.   At first I thought it was because she had broken her glasses and we hadn’t gotten them replaced yet. She kept having headaches in the front and back of her head. Two weeks later she started having problems with her gait and then the ultimate symptom that we knew something was wrong, she started throwing up.   By this time it was close to the end of May. The Tuesday after Memorial Day, we took Jessica to the closest ER which was in Hilton Head, SC.     She was crying and the pain in her head was excruciating. The person in front of us said, “Ya’ll go ahead.” They turned and saw how Jessica was in such pai...

Angel Girl

I have been writing about Jessica in a writer's group lately. This is one of the stories that I wrote. The events are true and happened after the year 2002 when we lived in the Greenville/Simpsonville area.    Honey, let’s load the station wagon with boxes to go to the new place. You and the kids can go take it to the trailer this afternoon after we go to the flea market,” I could hear James tell me.  For the past month we had been going to the flea market and selling refurbished computers. This particular day was a Sunday. The next week we were moving and we were gradually taking stuff to the new place. James had lost his contract job at a fancy company. He worked on computers and the company was downsizing and no longer needed him. So we were surviving on his unemployment check and whatever money we could make selling stuff. “Hey ya’ll,  “Let’s take the dogs with us to the flea market and then to the trailer.”   ...

Cars vs Guns

I have been thinking about the mass shooting in Florida. It seems that legislators want to implement more gun laws. They think this is going to make us safer. It isn't the law abiding citizen that are committing the crimes. When drinking and driving drunk got to a all time high there were laws put in place to punish the person. It took awhile but we now have laws in place when it comes to drunk driving. It isn't the car's fault if it hits a person. It is the person that is driving the car.   So why is it the gun's fault when there is a shooting. Shouldn't we hold the person that is doing the shooting responsible like we do the drunk driver? Just a thought.     Driving is a privilege and the 2nd amendment is a RIGHT. It is part of the Constitution. Just like freedom of speech is part of the 1st amendment. It is our right to speak. Lately it seems it isn't politically correct to voice your opinions about stuff. Whether we agree with it or not we all ha...

Already February 2018!

Wow, It is hard to believe it is already February 6, 2018. January flew by and I think February is going to fly by just as fast. Before I know it, my birthday month will be here. May is a serious month for birthday's for our family. Kristina turns 26 on the 4th of May. Justin turns 23 on the 6th of May, then we have our anniversary on the 12th. We will be celebrating 28 years! Mother's Day is usually in there somewhere. I didn't even plan that when we decided on the wedding date. Originally the wedding was going to be on March 10th. However, that year James lost his Dad in January and we postponed the wedding until May. I am not sure where the date actually came from. I think my sister just picked a date for us and we went for it. Then on the 21'st of May I will have my birthday. I turn 59. When I had my birthday in 2016, it was when I was having my 2nd surgery. I slept on my birthday that year. I don't remember much of it. I vaguely remember my son, Justin came ...
