REPOST from 2006

I was looking at our old website before we changed it to WordPress. Here is the link: https://archive.org/web/ Then type in www.lightourworld.com and it will take you to our old website. Anyway, I found one of James' blog post from 2006. I thought it was too funny I decided to repost it! lol This has to do with Justin's hamsters and our dogs that we had at the time. :) Enjoy...katy                                                   Missing Things by James Moffitt  I titled this blog "missing things" because we have had some missing things in the last week or two. I am not talking about the black hole that continually sucks all of my socks and other underwear into them never to be seen again. I am talking about other stuff that normally does not disappear. The case of the missing gerbils still has not been satisfactorily solved. The jury is still out on the fact that both rodents disappeared without a trace. It is almost as if they had been raptured out of their c

Guest Post: Shannon Rutheford

Thank you Shannon for being willing to be a guest author!                 The Mighty Oak What would you do if the shop you walk past every day was only visible to you? Would you freak out and run or would you be curious about the secrets that lie within its walls? Everyone knows the love I have for bakeries. It is the quaint settings, the array of savory pastries and tantalizing aromas of sweet goodness filling the air that make them so enticing. Having spent so much time in them as a child I came to appreciate the talent necessary to become the best.  I remember the days' dad used to bring home loaves of fresh bread and fresh donuts. My favorite bread was the sourdough and my favorite donuts were his apple fritters. I have never had one like he used to bring home and believe me I have tried my fair share of them from everywhere. I miss those days.  In my eyes, my dad was the best baker I ever knew, and my mom was

Guest Post: Chris Campbell

Chris is one of my friends in my writing group. He graciously agreed to be my first guest post. Thanks, Chris!                                     The Night Before Christmas It was the night before Christmas, dry and cold with a thick ground frost, despite the relatively early hour of 10pm. Steven, an elderly man was taking the family dog for its usual evening walk before retiring to bed. The dog was only small but liked to run free in the woods and fields near their home. On the homeward stretch, Steven turned into a dark alley that was a shortcut to their home. Often the dog balked at this point as it was not particularly fond of the dark, however, on this occasion, the dog trotted happily into the alley at the end of an extending lead. As they rounded a bend in the alleyway, Steven had a distinct impression that he was being followed, he looked over his shoulder, slightly alarmed as the alley was dark and could be a mugger’s paradise, but there was no one there. The do

Heels

I am going to attempt to write more regularly in here. This is what I wrote today for the Prompt called Heels. When I think of heels, I think of the heels I used to wear back when I was a teenager. I was tall and skinny and got stuck with big feet. The only place I could get shoes in my size was Bill's Shoe Box in Corpus Christi, Texas where we lived or I would order shoes from the catalog my Mom got.    Most of the time they didn't have "girl shoes" they had shoes for women. So I got stuck wearing shoes that had 2' heels. Which doesn't sound like much but as a teenager, who has never walked in heels it was a big deal. I was already a clutz because of being so tall. I wasn't very graceful so I tended to fall a lot. Back then, I used to wear pantyhose. So I tended to ruin my pantyhose. Fast forward to:    The first semester at The University of Texas was so cold and we had snow several times that winter. I still remember heading for class with some b

Blogging

Well, I have been horrible when it comes to keeping up with my blog. I hope I can do better in March. This month in our family we have a bunch of birthdays in my family. We have 6 birthdays in March. May we have three including mine, Kristina and Justin as well as Mother's Day. This year Mother's Day and our 29th anniversary are on the same day.   James got a new job with hospital close by in their Data Center department. He is a Data Center Coordinator. This is the first time he has been over people. He seems to like it. He is in training for 5 to 6 weeks and on temp to perm for 90 days. As most of ya'll know I have been at home since October of 2015 because of my brain tumor. It caused me balance issues until I was able to get my first surgery in April 26th, 2016. Then of course I had 4 other surgeries because of Spinal Cord leak issues, Ovarian Cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy for 3 treatments in 2016 and 2017. Hopefully, I am done with surgeries for a while. Anyway

Friday: Missing my Mom

Image
Sometimes, I think what could have been if my Mom had lived past 63 yrs of age. My kids missed out on knowing my Mom as a Grandmother. She would have spoiled them. When the girls were little, she would send money for me to use to get them stocking stuffers for Christmas.  I also think that if my Mom had out lived my Dad, I don't think we would have moved to Georgia when we did back in 1997.
